How the IECEx Certification System Works
The IECEx certification system is based on a structured evaluation process designed to verify that equipment used in explosive atmospheres meets international safety requirements.
An IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is issued when both product testing and quality system assessments are successfully completed. This certification is supported by two key documents:
ExTR – Explosion-Proof Test Report
The ExTR is issued by an approved IECEx Testing Laboratory (ExTL). It confirms that the equipment has been tested in accordance with relevant IEC 60079 standards and meets the required explosion protection requirements.
QAR – Quality Assessment Report
The QAR is issued by an accredited IECEx Certification Body (ExCB) after evaluating the manufacturer’s quality management system. It ensures that the production process is capable of consistently maintaining compliance with IECEx requirements.
IECEx Certification Approval
Together, the ExTR and QAR form the technical and quality basis for issuing the IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC), confirming that the equipment is suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres under the IECEx scheme.
