What Certifications Are Required for Explosion-Proof Products in China?

China currently has three major explosion-proof certification systems depending on the application environment and product category.

I. China Ex Certification

1.Applicable Products

Electrical and non-electrical equipment used in hazardous areas with explosive gas or dust atmospheres, excluding products listed under the explosion-proof CCC catalog.

2.Certification Process

    • Product testing only

    • No factory audit required

3.Applicable Standards: GB/T 3836 Series Standards

4.Certificate Validity: 5 years

5.Annual Factory Inspection: Not required

6.Major Certification Bodies

China has more than 10 qualified explosion-proof certification bodies, including:

   • CNEX (Nanyang)

   • NEPSI (Shanghai)

   • PCEC (Tianjin)

   • CQC (Guangzhou)

   • EETI

   • Coal Science Institute

and others.

II. Explosion-Proof CCC Certification

1.Applicable Products

Electrical equipment included in the mandatory explosion-proof CCC product catalog.

2.Certification Process

    • Product testing

    • Factory audit

3.Applicable Standards: GB/T 3836 Series Standards

4.Certificate Validity: 5 years

5.Annual Factory Inspection: Required once per year

 

6.Major Certification Bodies

   • Jiamusi Certification Center

III. MA & KA Certification for Mining Equipment

1.Applicable Products

Explosion-proof equipment intended for mining applications in China.

2.Certification Process

    • Product testing

    • Factory audit

3.Applicable Standards:

   • GB/T 3836 Series Standards

  • Mining-specific safety standards

4.Certificate Validity: 5 years

5.Annual Factory Inspection: Required once per year

6.Issuing Authority

China Mining Products Safety Approval and Certification Center (CMAC)
